V Magazine

As I mentioned here, V magazine’s covers and editorials have always been some of my favorite in the whole magazine world. The models picked are always top notch [and my personal faves]: Abbey Lee, Daria, Natalia Vodianova, etc. The covers are just such works of art, and I love them especially because I am such a fan of neon. The photography is iconic, and the palettes used are bold and electric, except for the black + white Abbey Lee one which stood out for exactly that reason. I have even more respect for the artistic director behind the covers, because it was such a genius choice for that particular cover. She is so insanely stunning and unique that it would have taken away from her beauty to have her face framed by a neon orange V. I love V covers so much…I may end up getting framed copies of my favorite covers and making some sort of wall montage. Perhaps my favorite one ever though, is the Natalia Vodianova one. I just love the combination of the shades of purple and green and the photography and her child-like face and frazzled platinum blonde crimped hair. Each cover sitting on my coffee table  right now is like a little piece of pop art. Seriously– if you put ANY magazine on a table, V is going to be the best-looking one there. Not Purple, not Pop, not Nylon, not Jalouse, or W, or Vogue, or Elle, would compare. The only one that could even POSSIBLY rival the artistic genius and aesthetic of V covers, are Interview covers. But I don’t like the type of the word “Interview” used on those covers…it’s like a cursive. I like the bold, strong, graphic V. Scroll below and see for yourself.

Gisele

Daria- the rainbow V and the red “V <3 Daria” is pretty amazing

Kate Moss– a cover made very famous because of the Maison Martin Margiela blonde hair coat she was wearing

Natalia- I love the pink-purple ‘glow’ V here

An unusual black and white cover for Abbey Lee

And to give you a sample of a pretty sick [but still not as good as V] Interivew cover, this recent one of Rihanna was rad. Her lips and red hair and criss-cross glittery straps and blue drop earrings and aviators together with the flowers [and her new tattoo- rebel fleur] made for a pretty dope combo.

Breathtaking

This is one of the most show-stopping, stunning, genius photographs I’ve ever seen. The way her legs are posed, peeking out of that sheer pleated gown, looks other-wordly. Like some mermaid goddess.  The way the nudeness of her skin blends into the nudness of her clothing….And her perch on that mantel just elevates the otherworldliness even further. Unbelievably amazing.

Barbara!!!

Barbara Palvin is one of my all-time fave models out there. Not sure the thumb-sucking was really necessary…this wasn’t a Terry Richardson shoot, and it kinda takes away from the classyness of these artistic photos….she’s got the Lolita-looking, sexy/childish aesthetic naturally…without the thumb-sucking. But I still love.

SICK SHOES

Stammy for W Korea. I would wear these Rachel Bilson style– with faded cropped-above-the-ankle blue skinnies and a slouchy white/grey tee. They speak for themselves, no need for anything beyond a basic palette.

Maybelline is picking the right models.

I love these new ads for Maybelline Fit Foundation. The first one I saw was of Charlotte Kemp Muhl. She is John Lennon’s girlfriend and one of the most insanely beautiful women alive. She also has INSANE personal style. I met & talked to her at FNO in NY this year, where she was working the Maybelline tent and DJ-ing with her bf, and she is twenty times prettier and cooler in person than any ad or editorial could ever communicate. In my entire life of stalking the street style of models and celebs and regular humans, I have never seen someone look as good in clothes as Charlotte Kemp Muhl did that night. Ever.

The second Maybelline Fit ad I just saw was of Emily Didonato. I have been obsessed with her for years. They are both my kind of beauty: Stunning eyes, big pouty lips, and a je ne sais quo.

The ads also feature the lovely Julia and Angus Stone’s song, Big Jet Plane. Someone is doing something right over at Maybelline!

And from my library of Blackberry camera photos:
Talking to CKM @ FNO.
Silly picture of me and it does her no justice buttt
CKM being pretty.

Oldie But Goodie

Natasha Poly backstage at Balmain. A glittering green goddess. That collection, Balmain Spring 2009 RTW, was one of my favorites of all time. Every mini-dress had a different jagged a-symmetrical hemline and different set of shoulders–mostly futuristic looking ones- but they were all amazing.
