Interior Design/Decor Inspiration

(My dream couch up above– a rustic, wooden platform couch where the end/side tables and the couch itself are all part of one platform piece, with soft white upholstery. Yum.) I’m hoping that my extremely crafty DIY Dad can build something like this….he designed and built an entire freaking DECK --which is nothing but wooden slabs put together to make a platform–so METHINKSSSS he can build a couch like this. My boyfriend and I are moving in together when my current lease is up this November (eeee!), and I am obsessed with collecting interior design inspiration for the new place. I live for interior design. I lean towards a bohemian, ecclectic, hippie vibe, but with some structured, glamorous-chic flair and rustic-country touches. I don’t like a place to look too hippie-dippy (like something out of a Free People catalogue or an ashram in India, no thank you that is not my style), and I don’t like the place to look too rustic (like a Civil War-era cottage, nooo thank you) and I REALLY would never go for something too girly-glamorous-chic (like the Upper East Side apartment of Charlotte from Sex and The City)…and I also don’t like, oppulance or decadence. I like a place to feel funky, lived-in, and unique/individual, basically in a nutshell: a flea-market feel. Here are a few simple things/looks/ideas I plan to have/implement in our new place:

1.) A flokati rug (fluffy sheepskin) over a lucite Chair.

2.) A Polaroid Heart

SPECIFICALLY, over the bed, like below

3.) A pop of NEON somewhere

4.) A metallic cowhide area rug. Which will only set me back a couple thou

5.) Colorful zig-zag pillows and bold, graphic wall art that is HUGE (a la the studio of Chris Benz)

6.) CHALKBOARD WALL PAINT

7.) A fabulous closet (DUH) with stacked vintage suitcases and free-standing racks

Plus some glittery hangers would not hurt the aesthetic

8.) Some awesome black&white photography that will be blown up HUGGGGEE and glossy and framed in equally glossy frames

9.) Some Abstract Wall Art

Perhaps to hang in the kitchen, like this black&white guy

That I mayyy end up cutting into a split-series, like the octopus below

10.) A chunky wooden dining table…

With a bench on only one side of it like so….

11.) And on the other side, some Eames chairs….

That will ALSO have fluffy flokati rugs on them, exactly like SO

12.) Ombre curtains

Like this really pretty blue version that I already own from Urban Outfitters

13.) At least one super-funky light fixture, like so

14.) Chevron Bedding

15.) Agate Coasters (Already own these bad boys)

16.) Various photographic prints hung in various groupings throughout the house, not blown-up huge like the art above, just normal sized prints. I love these, for example, by photographer Fernanda Montoro

17.) Skeleton Imagery (obsessed), like these fun x-ray coasters

18.) An awesome, masculine leather strap mirror (I keep seeing these everywhere and totally love them)

I am so in love with my imaginary place already that I can hardly take it. I just scrolled through all of the images above and almost burst with happiness. I love everything so much and can’t wait to make this come together!! You’ll notice a few key things missing because I still haven’t decided on them…and those include, a coffee table (do I want wooden? lucite? marble?); a bed (low-to-the-ground? high? a DIY wood slab headboard? An upholstered headboard? No headboard?), a bar car (rustic? vintage? industrial? lucite?), and paint colors…oh boy.

None of the images above are mine….they are merely inspirational idea-starters, found on Apartment Therapy, We Heart it, Amber Interiors, Bicyclette, Made by Girl, Etsy, and some various google searches. The really dope abstract paining with the hot pink is from Etsy Seller Nicole Cohen, and I REALLY want to buy it. It’s 350 bones though, so probably never. Maybe I can MAKE something like it…haha we’ll see about that.

The photos of the amazing dining room with the Eames chairs + sheepskin, the Navajo rug, and the wooden table are from LA-based interior designer Amber Interiors, whose blog I love for inspiration.

The glitter hanger photo is from the blog of a boutique-owner in Toronto called “Bicyclette” (Both the store and the blog are Bicyclette). I got lost in her archives yesterday and was losing it…literally like 6 hours on there. She posts awesome images from around the web, and tons of inspirational ideas for styling clothes, accessories, and closets in general. I am legit counting down the days until I can visit the boutique in person, in Toronto. It looks perfectly curated and styled, with just the kinds of decor touches that I love: doses of neon, vintage, and a healthy amount of glitz+glamour+glitter. All of their hangers are these amazing glittery confections that I die for! I do not consider myself to be over girly– I love STUDS, rips, holes, dirt, grunge…combat boots, distressed denim, ripped tights, messy hair, studded cut-offs, etc., but DAMN if I don’t love me some fucking GLITTER. I am a FIEND for glitter. I love confetti, glitter, and bright colors, all of which you can find at this adorable boutique both in terms of their decor and their merchandise. I seriously can’t wait to visit- I’ve been dying to go to Canada for the longest time as I have heard the shopping is to die for!

The photos of the kitchen with the abstract art, and the chalkboard paint kitchen area are both from a darling little apartment that was recently featured on Apartment Therapy.

And the photo of the closet with the stacked vintage suitcases is a photo that a reader sent in to Jen Ramos’s blog, Made by Girl. She features the real-life closets of her readers, which I thoroughly enjoy seeing.

The rest are miscellaneous that I’ve collected over the years and don’t have photo credits for, sadly : ( But if you know where they originated, let me know!
